Nitrous Oxide Experiences!?

Question

Looking for mamas who used it during labor - what did you like and dislike? Would you suggest it? Someone answer lol my posts never get much feedback - I’m a second time mama looking for some info! Thanks 🙂

I had an epidural with my first and used only nitrous oxide with my second. I definitely preferred my second labor and birth experience. I was able to be up and moving as much as I wanted to, which helps with labor progression and comfort. The important thing with using nitrous oxide is going in with realistic expectations. It doesn't take away the pain or intensity of the contractions. It just makes you temporarily loopy so that you don't care as much about the contractions. It helps relax your body and mind so you can get through each contraction without getting anxious and tensing up.  I personally thought it was wonderful and super helpful. I used it from about 6/7cm all the way through delivery. I plan on using it again with my upcoming labor and delivery too!

I loved it, I ultimately got the epidural after 30 hours in labour but I did get some relief with the gas, it took the edge off

Is there any danger or trauma to the baby in this technique?

I used it even though it made no difference. The nurse said it's often a mental thing
