GD and life after birth
So I read that if you have gestational diabetes there is a 50% chance that you will develop type 2 diabetes later in life, and that worries me a bit. GD has been no fun and I can handle it as long as it’s temporary, but it’s made me realize that this is really not something I want for the rest of my life.
So I’m starting to think about life after GD. It’s easy to say I will exercise, lose weight and all that, but this is not my first kid and I know life has a tendency of getting in the way of these big, vague resolutions, especially with a newborn.
So I figured I would ask here, does anyone have any concrete plans for this? Have your doctors had any specific recommendations? One thing I’m wondering about, for example, is the way we are taught to eat with GD. In order to cut down on carbs I have definitely been eating more fat, for example. So I’m not sure if that’s how I should continue to eat. And of course part of me just wants to eat everything that I couldn’t during the pregnancy, and that will be difficult to keep in check, too. 🙈
