My daughter was born in April 2018 with gastroschisis, a birth defect where her abdominal wall did not close and she was born with her bowel on the outside of her body.

9 months later and I am so in awe of her designer belly button. Her surgeon did beautiful work. He really stressed the impact physical deformities can have later down the road and the importance of minimizing scarring - something I could’ve cared less about in that moment - and went the route to give her the most normal looking belly. Sitting here now, I feel so blessed for the BEAUTIFUL belly button he created for our daughter. I know looks don’t matter, but point blank kids are mean and I really do feel thankful that he wanted to give my daughter the most “normal” life possible.
