So, my husband just left on the shuttle to go to basic training for 14 weeks. We have a 1 year old and have been together since high school (going on 6 years), married for 4 months.

Everything happened so fast because we only had three weeks from when he went and enlisted to today, when he left. Hes been my best friend for 6 years and we havent been apart for more than a week at a time. Saying goodbye and then walking into our room once i got home and realizing he wont be sleeping next to me for a while is what got me. I cried a little (maybe a lot).

Last night it hit me that we wouldn’t be together for our first valentines day as a married couple so he convinced me to go to Walmart so we could do valentines day early. We were laughing and smiling trying to hide our gifts from each other while shopping in the same section. I tried sneaking by him at one point and he saw me so i ran. I kept looking over my shoulder at everyone walking by thinking it was him. Im sure i looked crazy. I couldnt stop smiling though. I turn to go check out and see my husband on the other side of the store walking to check out with a bouquet of flowers and a giant koala in his hands with a grin from ear to ear on his face. I beat him checking out and went to our meet spot which happened to be right in front of where he was checking out. He kept telling me to leave so i couldnt see my gifts and other people were laughing at us. We exchanged gifts and cards and i still couldnt stop smiling. He said the koalas name is “karl with a K” and hes here for me to cuddle while hes gone.

We had a fun, light hearted last night together until mid May and im so glad. Im going to miss him but its not a goodbye, its a see you soon ❤️
