When did you tell work you’re expecting and who first?

This is my first pregnancy AND I’m the first female to have a baby at my small agency. When should I tell? Currently I’m not showing and don’t really have any symptoms, at least I can hide them. I’m about 8 weeks. Should I wait until 12? 15? Also should I tell HR or my boss first?

I told my boss first in case of an emergency - HR Is expected to keep things confidential so you can tell them at anytime.

I told at only 6 weeks but I’m a teacher and am consistently leaving my classroom to get sick/need to break the “no food in class” rule ya avoid nausea as much as possible. Otherwise, I probably would have waited until 2nd trimester, personally.

I told my co-workers first but we are all pretty close and I am our HR Rep. One of them knew the day we found out because of how I was acting ☠️
I told my boss shortly after which was good because I have had to go to weekly appointments for a period.

I told my work right away, like two days after I found out. I work as a wine & spirits specialist and have to try a lot of different wines and do a lot of heavy lifting of the wine cases so I felt that it was pretty important for them to know ASAP lol. I’m not making the actual big announcement until my second trimester, but it’s nice to have a supportive team at work every day! I work with other parents who have helped me deal with the symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue, which are currently kicking my butt lol

Depends on your line of work I suppose, I work in a restaurant so I told them straight away because aspects of my job include heavy lifting and 8+ hours on my feet which I’m no longer willing or capable of doing, they have an obligation to maintain confidentiality but I do think it’s best to be honest and let them know ASAP, there are laws against discrimination too so you should be fine xx

I told my boss (owner of the company) first when I was 8 weeks. I’ve had multiple previous losses so she would know if I was missing work for that anyways. We have an office of 80 and I’m one of 8 managers so we’re fairly close knit. I told HR immediately after telling her and I told my direct back up after I spoke with HR. I will be telling the rest of my staff when I’m 10-11 weeks.

I told my immediate work group (which is just my boss and one other guy I’ve worked with for 4+ years) a week or two after I found out. I knew they would be supportive and they have been - we all travel a decent amount and they’ve been so great about covering for me when I’ve been feeling sick and exhausted, or when I have doctor’s appointments, etc. I also knew that if something went wrong, I would need their support in that case too. I’m going to wait a little longer to talk to HR though because I don’t think there’s much they need to do at this point anyway since I’m only 8 weeks in.
