I’m married with no kids yet. Can we file our taxes separately?

My husband's taxes get robbed from him every year for child support. So even after we have kids we will always be filing separately and I will claim our kids under me so she doesn't get any more than what she's already stolen.
You can do your taxes however you like. I would suggest asking whoever is filing your taxes for you what the benifits for filing separately and together would be. Then decide from there.

If you’re in Canada, you must file jointly.  It’s technically not a choice.

Absolutely. My husband has a significant income and I owe a lot in student loans, so we are filing separately. He will get a large return and I won’t have to use his income when I update my tax info for my loan provider. If we filed together I would have to pay $500 a month towards my loan but I currently am not working so I wanted to get lower payments. Now I owe $0 per month (I still make payments but not having a minimum requirement is great). I am claiming our daughter because I’ll receive more with no income than he will with a large income.

What we did last year (when we got married) was filed out turbotax married filing separatly then after i did one of ours married filing joint. Then just cancelled separately because the joint ended being more then what we both got separately.
