Crazy water intake?

Kellie

Not a post about how to take in more water, not really looking for advice on that just have some questions.

There seems to be this crazy idea that you have to drink gallons of water every day to be healthy. I've never been a person who drinks a lot of water, juice, soda, or anything. I'm 5'4" and averaging about 137lbs. Since being pregnant on average I drink up to 6-8 8oz glasses of water a day. Some days I get up to 7 or 8 glasses but I've never exceeded that. There are days I only get 4 glasses in usually weekends where I'm busy running errands.

I'm wondering if there are negative repercussions to how little I drink. I've read some stuff about preterm labor and difficulty with lactation to scare myself into drinking more but I literally can't do more than 6-8 glasses a day. I'm not active, I'm a small-ish person, and baby has been measuring on track at my appointments.

Am I doing this okay or should I really push that 12 glasses every day? It just seems like a ton of water for someone my size. I've done calculators based on my weight and they say I should have 8 glasses a day but I never drank that much in my life daily before and I feel very hydrated with just 6 glasses.

Any thoughts?
