When will Nexplanon replacement be effective

I had my Nexplanon removed yesterday because it just expired and then they immediately inserted a new one. I forgot to ask them and I don’t see it on the info sheet they gave me, but when will it become effective? Do I have to wait 7 days like I did when I first got it, or is it immediately effective because it’s already in my system?

I didn’t give it a window. I assumed it was effective immediately as I still had hormones in me when the new bar was inserted 🤷🏽‍♀️

I would go with the standard “if inserted within the first 5 days of your period then it’s effective immediately, inserted at any other time you must wait at least 7 full days” if it were me I’d wait the 7 full days to be safe!

I just had my hormonal IUD removed and nexplanon inserted on the same day. My doctor told me since I didn’t go without hormones, I’m still protected and to keep doing whatever I was doing! I think you’re fine. If there had been a few days in between removal and re-placement, then I would use a backup method. Don’t worry!

I was told it was effective immediately as you didn't go without the hormones. But if you rather be safe than sorry, I agree to the other comment. Wait 7 days before having unprotected sex. (:
