Can you ovulate but not release an egg?

My doctor told me that during my pelvic exam last week, is this true? He wants to get my progesterone checked to see if I’m releasing an egg after ovulation.

You can have an LH surge without ovulating, and you can have cycles without ovulating, but ovulating means releasing an egg, so you probably just have some terminology mixed up. The way to tell if you ovulated or not is to have your progesterone drawn during your luteal phase.

I’ve always wondered this too?? Also wonder if I ovulate more than once a month (based on ovulation strips) ? And if that’s possible, then do you release/lose more than one egg a month??
