When to introduce baby to pets?

When did you allow your pets/children to be in close proximity? I’m nervous about letting my 2 kitties get close. They’re very loving, no behavior issues. Mainly concerned regarding allergies/the fact that they’re animals and probably covered in some dander....

Studies show that the earlier babies and pets are introduced, the less likely allergies are to develop. Introduce them! Don’t let them lay all up on baby or anything, but close proximity is no problem!

Introducing the baby to the animals is important. The sooner the better. While I was still at the hospital I gave my mom a receiving blanket and the hospital hat to her so she can let my dogs and cats get familiar with the scent before we came home. We also let them get comfortable with all of the baby equipment before the baby arrived. My dogs usually sniff her feet or her head first thing in the morning or if she starts to get upset and that’s usually all they do. My cats are more curious and will be on the bed if we have her on the bed. They also sniff her but they don’t climb on her or anything like that. They just want to sleep on the corner of the bed and that’s it. You should also NEVER “force” your baby into your pets. I always get nervous when I see those pictures of people who just lay their newborns on top of their dogs or cats. That’s how accidents happen. I’m a vet tech and that’s how child bites happen.

The day she came home. We have a golden retriever that we can’t separate from the family. He did fine with her!

we introduced our two kitties right away and have zero issues. They seem to know not to lay on her. If she is on my lap they will sit close but never jump straight to my lap like they did before

I’m having the same issue. I have a cat and a dog. I know my dog wouldn’t hurt the baby but my cat is not so nice. My mom made me so self conscious about having my pets around my baby that I’m scared now. Every time they try to get in my room or near the baby I push the away. 😢

I have 4 cats and we kept them away from her the first week just because I was nervous and then let them come into the room with her. They were very curious but now 2 have completely lost interest in her, one is jealous and one is never away from her lol the earlier you do it the better for all of them

I’ve never had cats, so I’m not sure if it’s different, but we introduced my dog to the baby the day she was born (had baby at birth center). We’ve had zero issues. He likes being close to us, but has never been on top of her or anything like that. The baby hasn’t exhibited any allergies or sicknesses as a result 🤷🏻‍♀️
