Postpartum edema

Brittney

Hi ladies! My baby boy is 6 days old today. I am suffering with edema. My feet are so swollen and tight it's starting to hurt! How many of you suffered postpartum swelling in the feet and legs? How long did it last? Any tips for relief? I've tried elevating and drinking lots of water.

Mine lasted about 2.5 weeks after my c-section. It was so bad that I could barely even wear flip flops or any clothes other than pjs. My doctor told me that it can sometimes be worse if you have any pitocin or if they have to give you any fluids during labor. Make sure you’re drinking a ton of water, keeping your feet elevated when possible, and avoid having too much sodium.

It makes sense why bc they gave me lots of fluids and pitocin during labor. I will try drinking more water and maybe a water pill might help. Thanks for all have advice!

Nearly 3 weeks! 😮 you poor thing. I hope mine doesn't last that long. I too can barely wear shoes and I'm stuck wearing a nursing night gown.

Mine went down in the hospital. I think it was from the fluids they gave me. I made sure to drink a lot of water and keep my feet elevated.

I did all three times. It takes time for the extra fluid to leave your body postpartum. It can take a few weeks sometimes. I had preeclampsia with my first and had major swelling for a long time postpartum.

Buy compression socks, they’ll save your life! I got a 5 pack of them on amazon for $14.99. I had bad swelling for 2-3 weeks postpartum. Wear the socks day & night, you’ll notice a difference quickly!
