Why do you stuff pockets?

I got some prefolds and pockets with liners, why do the liners go inside the diaper? Why not between baby and diaper so you can just change the liner in most cases?

Not all inserts are in into be against skin. Baby feels the wet more. And the whole diaper needs to be changed each time. Pockets aren’t like covers that you can just wipe off and reuse.

I can't put an insert against my baby's skin. I've tried just laying the bamboo inserts on top of the pocket instead of inside and her bottom got so red. The pockets have that fleece top that pee goes through and keeps baby's skin dry. I stuff all my pockets now and my baby doesn't ever have any problems with rashes. I love my pocket diapers.

It depends what your inserts are made of. If they are microfiber, then they aren't safe to be against baby's skin, so you can either put them in the pocket or wrap them in something like a flat or a flower sack towel to put on top. 
If you want something that is safe to not stuff, to just put on top, then look into either flats, prefolds, flower sack towels, or else inserts that are made of hemp or bamboo or cotton. Just make sure you aren't putting microfiber on the baby's skin.

My pockets are made of fleece on the inside so it keeps baby's skin feeling dry :)

The liners are often made from a more absorbent material, but it’s not comfortable for baby to have directly against the skin.
