Anyone getting a convertible car seat to use from hospital-toddlerhood?

What kind are you getting? What are the best ones? FTM! Mothers with experience or those who research! What’s on your list? Currently 27 weeks and want to start shopping!

The only problem with convertable carseats is that they stay in the car. If babys fallen asleep, you'll have to wake them to get them out. If you are on a lunch date with friends or family, you'll have to hold the baby or play pass the baby while eating. Babywearing is possible, but when you want to do a quick errand, it's a hassle. Sometimes it's nice to just lift the carseat out and go. But that said, my toddler son is in a graco size4me. Graco 4ever is our second choice.

With my son we had an infant seat in one car and a convertible in the other. We really only took the infant seat out of the car when we went out to eat in restaurants, I didn’t want to wear him and spill food on his head then. But other than that I wore him. Since that infant seat is still good we’re gonna use it again for this baby. Some hospitals do require an infant seat for discharge and others do not, you can ask during the L&D tour.

I would recommend an infant seat. Like some other moms have said, it is much more convenient to have an infant seat. My first stayed in her infant seat until 12 months. It was so nice to pop it in and out of the car if she was sleeping, to run a quick errand and to go straight into the stroller (with a click-in converter thing).  We had the Nuna Pipa, it is one of the safest and most light weight. We really liked it and are looking forward to using it for #2!

Getting a Britax Clicktight Advocate convertible car seat; same as my first son is currently using. Nervous whether that will work from birth though. My first son was tiny (used an infant seat that I no longer have for him) and I never mastered quickly using the baby carrier.

This is not a cheap option, but I’m a paramedic, so I went for as safe as humanly possible 😂 I bought the Clek car seat... brand new out this year! They make amazing stuff. It fits onto the Cruz or Vista Uppa baby stroller

I got an awesome gracco infant seat at target on clearance for $60! For the convertible, I’ve used 3 different brands and graco has been my favorite. I do the moderate ones-nothing crazy.

Definitely get a separate infant car seat! #1 the sleeping baby can easily be transported in and out of the car. #2 anyone can buy a base for their car (grandparents or other family) and be able to just pop that bucket seat in and out without worrying about installing a bulky car seat. 
Even in general, you don’t have to wrestle trying to get a baby out of a car seat while standing sideways to a car and then picking them up and carrying them with other things in your hands .. safer to get the baby inside wherever you are and take your time. Also, if you’re shopping or running errands, the car seat can pop into a skeleton stroller or shopping cart!

We have the graco forever extend to fit and we’ve loved it with my daughter for the last almost 2 years, I’ll be getting another for this baby.

Research now suggests that leaving your sleeping baby in an infant car seat while not in the car can cause blockage of their airway and death. I found with my first (he’s 9 now) that carrying the infant seat although easy was very hard on my back. I had back labor with both my previous births, so the extra weight of the seat made my back muscle recovery difficult. With my second baby (she’s 4 now) I used an infant to toddler convertible car seat and wore her when we got out of the car for any reason. My back recovery was much faster than with my son. I am currently 25wks with my third and plan to only use a convertible. The hospital will check to make sure you have a proper car seat for your infant, but if you have installed your convertible properly (rear facing) and chosen one that is suitable for your baby’s weight you will be fine.

I got one with my last and hated it. They don’t remove from the car so if you have to run an errand it’s completely impossible to carry a baby and push a shopping cart! I went out and bought a infant seat a week later
