WHO: ten threats to global health of 2019
I saw in my google feed this article from WHO. It basically listed what are some of the major health threats to the world that The WHO would like to address with their 5 year plan starting this year. Each one had a short description of the problem, as to why these were their focus. I found some of them fairly interesting and as someone living in developed country I didn’t realize some of these were STILL a problem(dengue in particular, even though it makes perfect sense to still be around 🤦🏼♀️). Maybe my shear ignorance, maybe lack of not hearing about, idk 🤷🏼♀️ Some I wasn’t even slightly surprise that it was on the list. The list was:
1) air pollution and climate change
2)noncommunicable diseases(diabetes, cancer, heart diseases, etc)
3)global influenza pandemic
4)fragile and vulnerable settings( caused by drought, famine, conflict, population displacement)
5)antimicrobial resistance (bacteria, viruses, parasites resisting modern medicine)
6)Ebola and other high threat pathogens
7)weak primary health care
8)vaccine hesitancy(anti-vaxxers)
9)dengue(mosquito borne disease)
10)HIV
Of these ten are you surprised/shocked to see them? What do you think can be done to take one or more of these off the list?Do you think anything should be added/taken away from the list? What do you think will happen if a particular one isn’t “fixed” in a timely manor?
Here’s the url if you want to read it, I found it very informative.
