Gender determination????

Has anyone tried the Shettles method for "determining" baby's gender before conception? Did it work?

Non related to that method but my step dad tied a pencil to a sting and let it dangle right above my wrist and it’s said boy.... and guess what?! BOY DUE! He also has done it to all my sisters and some friends and it was all right. 
Totally weird but he raises chickens and he also does it to them when they are little to tell the gender haha works every time!
