Twins??

My mom is a twin, I’ve heard that it skips a generation which would mean it’s my generations turn to have twins. My sister or brother didn’t end up having twins, and none of my aunts kids had twins either. So my mom swears I’m pregnant with twins 😂 I know it may seem crazy but anyone know anything about chances of having twins if your mom is one?

Identical twins are completely random. Fraternal twins come from ovulating two eggs in one cycle. You could become pregnant with twins if fraternal twins run in your family, however the chances of it aren't much higher because of it.

If your mom is a twin and it skips a generation, then neither you nor your siblings would have twins. But, either your chikdren or your sibling's children coukd have twins.

There is a “twin gene” when it comes to fraternal twins. If your mom is a fraternal twin she carries this gene and so do you and your siblings. 
Thing is, the “twin gene” only affects women as it can cause hyper ovulation and result in releasing 2 eggs. Men can carry the gene and pass it to their children but it will not affect their chances of having twins themselves because men don’t ovulate. 
This is where the “skips a generation” thing comes from. If a man is a fraternal twin, he is no more likely to have twins than the next person, but if he has a daughter she will have slightly higher odds.
In the case of women though the odds are the same each generation. Your mom (if she’s fraternal) was slightly more likely to have twins as are you and your sister(s).

They always say twins generally "run in the family." But it's not really true. Fraternal just means you ovulated twice in one cycle, identical means the first cell split into two. Still exciting though to have twins!

My husband’s family says the same thing lol they were saying I’d get twins 🙄 my sil has 3 boys and she done and my bil has a daughter before he passed away unexpectedly. So that leaves us...we will not be having twins lol we have a son and a girl on the way....no more!
