Work accommodations

Emily

Anyone else feel weird when it comes to asking for your job to make some kind of accommodation due to you being pregnant. I drive school bus and my bus is in the back of the lot which is currently covered in ice (gotta love Wisconsin weather) and walking to it with a toddler in tow has really started to hurt my stomach and back. But I still feel weird asking them to move my bus up. Like I don’t want to seem like I deserve special treatment just because I’m pregnant.

I do, but I ask anyway and when I say ask it's more like me telling my boss no I won't do that until I'm back from maternity leave. Women should never feel the need to apologize for caring for their unborn babies. If other people don't understand, that's on them. By law we're a protected class, so any employer that makes you feel uneasy is breaking the law.

They don’t make me feel uneasy. They’re actually all very nice about it. I just have this weird feeling asking for special treatment

I understand the discomfort but it is better to ask for accommodations then to ask to go on break. To me it shows you want to continue to work.

I’ve been accommodated since 11 weeks pregnant. I work in a prison and I went to a desk role. Not worth the risk :)
