Has anyone had experience with their baby not rolling over by 5 months old?

I’m worried that my baby has a development delay. He doesn’t roll over yet and is 5 months and a week. The dr says he should be rolling over by now. He is reaching all of his other milestones so far though. Has anyone had experience with this? What does it mean?

Mine didn’t roll over until 8.5 months when he started crawling. He has no delays, kid just didn’t want to roll.

Mine wasnt consistently doing it until 6-6.5 months. Then he hasnt stopped since.lol

Have you been doing belly time? And when I do belly time I encourage my baby to try to roll and I've been doing this since she was 4 weeks and by 6 weeks she could roll belly to back but not back to belly yet. But I remember with my son I hardly did belly time and he wasnt rolling until he was around 5-6 months

My son was rolling over a lot at 2-3 months and then stopped at 3.5-4 months. 😕 he hates tummy time now and will either just turn himself in a circle, lay down, grab whatever is under him, or scream.

I think both of my sisters kids could crawl way before they could roll over. The doctor said it was because they were large babies. Every kid is different, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Nah mine didn’t consistently roll both ways until like 8.5 months. Totally healthy walking 14 month old now.

Your doctor shouldn’t say those things, there’s no “should be doing this by now”. It’s a window where they may do it, or they may not. To help you can put the baby in the middle of a blanket on the floor on their belly, then slooooowly lift the corner so their body begins to turn. They will eventually turn with the blanket, but may complete the roll themselves.
ALSO to help develop trunk muscles, hold their legs down during diaper changes and dangle an interesting toy in front of their face. They will reach and try to lift, but won’t be able to. You holding their legs will be like spotting them for a sit-up, and over a month you may see she will be able to lift her body to sit - a helpful skill that will ultimately help her learn to crawl (same muscles used in trunk control).

You could try side lying...my nephew hated tummy time and it was slowing him down from rolling. Turns out he just needed some more confidence and strength in his sides to feel comfortable rolling. After a week of no tummy time (per PT) and laying on his side with a soft book to play with, he started rolling because he wanted to not because we were trying to get him to.
