Do tampons make your period lighter???!

Question

So I usually have quite a heavy period, but whenever I use a tampon ( generally when I swim or do dance, which is four times a week) my period goes really light for about 12 hours, then goes back to normal. Once, when I only used tampons on my period, I was so light it hurt to put the smallest size in. Why does this happen, and does anyone else experience this???

I’ve also noticed that my periods seem lighter/shorter when I mainly wear tampons. When I first started my period I only wore pads for years and felt like my period was heavy and I also felt like I bled a decent amount at night. Now I usually wear tampons in the day and wear pads to bed and there is barely blood on the pad in the morning. Not sure why it makes it seem lighter but my guess is that it is really absorbing it from within as opposed to letting the blood flow naturally out?😂
