Are you an infant teacher?

Question

How are you able to care for the needs of four babies at a time? I think it would be nearly impossible. Please share!

I was an infant toddler teacher for close to 10 years. When working with infants we had a 4:1 ratio (8 babies total) and toddlers were a 5:1 ratio (10 toddlers total). The babies weren't that challenging for me at all. At points in the day, we had an extra set of hands in the room, but overall, it was a pretty calm, easy room. It's not like they're ALL on the same schedule and crying at once. The younger babies slept a lot during the day and the older ones rolled around/crawled on the floor, playing with toys. Meals were generally around the same time for the older babies (6+ months) but overall, we just fed them, changed them, and put them down for naps as needed.

I was in the Pre-K class 3-4 yrs and my friend was the infant teacher in the room next to me. I would jump in and help sometimes. i don't no how she kept that room so calm. she was amazing!

Yep! Going on 5 years! It is so so difficult but a lot of times I’ll put an infant in our rock n play, one in the bouncer and hold one and just talk to them all and let them know that I hear them and as soon as I can I will get them exactly what they need. Usually our babies (we have 9 currently with 3 teachers) schedules vary enough that they aren’t all crying at once but we will occasionally have a “witching hour” where they are all freaking out 😂 when they happens we are running around like crazy trying to get each kiddo what they need quickly! Bubbles also work wonderfully as a distracting activity and we have a TON of songs that we sing to them! It’s a juggling act and sometimes I wish they got more attention but when we get a quiet moment we always hold a sleeping baby a little longer, pick one up and really get some one on one time and just really try to make sure that WHEN we have the time to give our full attention to one we are doing exactly that!

the ratio in Louisiana for babies is 5:1 and each child has a different schedule the more you do it the easier it gets

Going on 3 years and I love it!!! It’s my favorite room to be in. My coworkers think I’m nuts! But usually their schedules are different so they don’t need everything at once. But even if they do, a lot of the ones in my room are calm babies, except for 2-3 here and there. So it’s really not to bad.

I was for about a year! 😊 I was pretty on the ball with sleep schedules. Most of the babies I had were around 7-10 months (occasionally younger or older depending on parent schedules) and they would get a morning nap from 9:30 to 10:30 and I would wake them all up. We would have a snack (or bottle) then do tummy time and rotate between the different infant toys (bouncer, jumper, etc). We ate lunch around 12-12:30 then I would turn the lights down lower until 1:00 when I would give them a bottle then laid them all down by 1:30 and they slept until 3:30 or 4 when we would all play again until pick up.
