Depression DURING pregnancy?

You hear about postpartum depression all the time, and how common it is. But has anyone had these feelings DURING their pregnancy. I just started feeling this way this week (36wks 3days).... I just want to cry and there is no explanation for it. And because I have no control over these emotions it’s making me feel even worse 😞

Hi love, it’s called perinatal depression and very common 😊 some great resources on the ‘beyond blue’ website and do chat to your doctor to help get on top of things before baby’s arrival.

1 in 7 women experiences clinical anxiety/depression DURING pregnancy. I started on meds at 20 weeks due to moderate to severe antenatal depression. Talk to your provider and support system about it and know that you are not alone, and even though it is not talked about much, it is common.

Totally a thing! The hormones certainly don’t help. I definitely have days where I feel super “off” and have to motivate myself to do things so I don’t get depressed. It’s hard to deal with all the changes pregnancy brings. Feeling overwhelmed, miserable, self-conscious, distant from your significant other. There is so much about pregnancy that can lead to depression! I recommend knowing how to not let yourself fall into that slump. Like I know if I let myself just lay around, I am asking for trouble. So I force myself to do chores or get out of the house.

I definitely got depression during this pregnancy. Mostly because I never wanted anymore kids and was on the pill when I got pregnant. I still think I am a little depressed but nothing as bad as it was for the first 6ish months. You are not alone ♥️ Reach out for help from your SO or doctor for support if you feel like you need it.

It's definitely possible to suffer during pregnancy. It's talked about far less and that's hard because ppd isn't talked about that much to begin with. I went off the anxiety/depression medicine when I found out I was pregnant but with 4 weeks left I had to go back on it. I was breaking down so much crying and angry and just becoming unstable. I recognized the road I was going down long before I asked to go back on it but I'm so glad I finally did because I know it would have only gotten worse after the baby was born. I would highly recommended your speaking to your provider now just because there are safe medications if that is what you guys decide is best or get you into counseling if that's what's best. But either way you will both be on the same page about it

Yes I was extremely feeling low for most of this pregnancy I had a month where I was crying every single day, resenting my pregnancy and my life. I honestly didn’t snap out of it until I got to see her face on a 3D scan 3 weeks ago. This baby was a surprise for me so I think that’s why I’ve been having such a hard time coping but now that its getting closer and I’m getting the house more baby ready it helps a bit too plus my daughter is very excited to be a big sister

Eh. Yes. I’ve experienced this. I would expect it to be somewhat common. I know I’m going to miss the quiet evenings with just my husband and our fur babies. We’re over the moon & excited about this baby but that doesn’t mean I won’t miss what we currently have either, it makes me sad. I would speak with your doctor if you’re really struggling.

Yep, totally normal. My doctor told me about 70% of women experience depressive symptoms at some point in their pregnancy even if they never qualify as being able to be diagnosed for perinatal depression. 
Depressive symptoms were actually my first symptom of pregnancy. 
Just talk to your doctor and maybe let someone you’re close to know so that they can have your back in case you struggle at all after the baby is born.

Im experiencing the same, my doctor offered progesterone if I wanted it. I noticed that if I miss taking my prenantal or iron supplement it's worse but so far I've been okay without the progesterone. Talk to your doctor. They will help you.
