Does anyone knows why some pictures get weirdly resized or get that black background?

I’ve noticed whenever I edit a photo on my phone... Whether I crop it or just change the lighting... then I get that huge black space. But if I post a regular picture that hasn’t been edited, then I don’t get all that black

Sometimes it happens for me and sometimes it doesn’t. I have an iphone7 but i honestly think it’s just random 🤷🏼‍♀️
