Tips on getting baby to sleep longer at night?

My one month old usually wakes up every 2 and half to 3 hours at night to eat. A few nights ago she slept from 10 pm until 5 am but it hasn’t happened again. Any tips on how to get her to sleep longer at night like she did that one night?

1 month is still so young to sleep though the night. You gotta be SUPER lucky if she does it every single night . My daughter start sleeping through the night from 10 pm to 10 am at 3 months.

I know its difficult but it's actually very normal to have your baby waking through the night and it keeps them safer. Newborns are only in a deep sleep for about 45 min at a time and the rest of the time they're in REM. REM is a light sleep where their brain is still up and active, practicing what they're learning which is why they flail, grunt, whimper, or squirm in general. Its also essential to their survival that they sleep in REM because a newborn in a deep sleep won't wake up if their ability to breathe is hindered in some way, they are hungry, too hot/cold, uncomfortable etc. It sucks but once they're 3-4 months along they begin to develop a deeper sleep pattern and can sleep comfortably for longer periods of time. It gets better!
