4 hours after and sent straight to the SCBU

I was due to be induced on Sunday 10th Feb (due to her being a big baby and me being so small) so I called the delivery suite at 9am that morning and they said they couldn’t induce me that day as they were completely full and to call back on Monday and maybe they could do it that day. So I sat on the sofa and cried as I was really looking forward to it and had planned everything for Sunday such as my son going to my mothers for the night. Either way baby decided to typically then break my waters at 10:30am! So I then went down to the maternity ward and expected intense contractions to begin as my son was only born 4 hours after my waters broke! Anyway... nothing happened for the whole of Sunday.. no contractions started.. so we came onto Monday and it had been 24 hours since my waters broke.. the midwives decided to carry on waiting and hope for the best because the delivery suite was full so they didn’t want to do anything further. 9:30pm Monday night (nearly 36 hours after my waters initially broke) they sent me down to the delivery suite finally to induce me! So they put me on the drip.. I had an epidural beforehand as I knew the drip was supposed to be extremely intense! I tried to then sleep and around 2:30am I woke up and found the epidural had only worked on my one side and I could feel all the contractions intensely happening in the left so they had to keep upping the dose... the whole time it still not doing anything to my left side! 4:15am and I was fully dilated but they wanted me to wait an hour to get more feeling so the contractions could help me push more but 5 minutes later the baby’s heart rate kept drastically dropping at every contraction so I had to push anyway. 20 minutes later she was born. 5:05am! She’s was unbelievably perfect. For the next 4 hours we fed her, got her dressed etc and then they came in to do her oxygen stats and sent her straight away leaving me and my partner wondering what was happening for over an hour. We then got told that we were allowed to ‘visit’ her. She’s had to be put on oxygen as she’s not fully breathing on her own. She’s had a chest x ray and there were several patches showing that she developed an infection to what they believe is pneumonia so she’s got a cannula in her hand for blood work and antibiotics (took them at least 10 attempts to find a good enough vein so she’s covered in needle marks!) it’s looking at a good few days of her being in the SCBU. They said she’ll probably get worse before she gets better. Worst part was... she developed the infection because she was born so far after my waters has broke - which could have been avoided if they induced me within the 24 hour period of my them breaking like they’re supposed to!!! She was born nearly 48 hours after! Hopefully she’s better soon. I feel completely lost and distraught right now.
