Sensitive nipples

Since my period returned - not just some spotting here and there but actual, normal periods - my nipples get really sensitive in the last part of my cycle, about the 10 days leading up to my period. (I think I read that the hormones characteristic to the luteal phase may cause this...)

Do you mommas also experience this?

How do you handle it?

My toddler nurses when going to sleep and once or twice at night and it seems like she learned to be kind and gentle to my boobs, so it's not as bad as it could be with a younger baby but it's still very uncomfortable. At its peak I even feel aversion and before I realize what's happening I'm trying to avoid breastfeeding.

My baby bit me experimentally a few times before she turned one and that was really bad, but I didn't experience many other problems with my nipples before this.

Do you have any advice to this situation?
