Why is racism such a topic of debate ?

I know some that says it’s non existent or that it’s the way people look or etc etc. but what do you think about racism in Your country? Mines(USA)

Racism is everywhere, some places not as much, but it still very much exists. 
I feel that until everyone can acknowledge that it happens and make a change, then it will continue. Living in denial of it existing makes the issue worse, just because you don’t experience it/have a black friend/never seen it before/think its bullshit, doesn’t mean it isnt there.

It’s definitely existent here in America mainly because of the way this country was built from the start. The problem with racism & why it continues to get worse is the fact people turn a blind eye to it if it’s not affecting them. Another issue is people speaking on it without experiencing the actual day to day lives or experiences of a POC. Now if you’re being supportive of POC & acknowledging what we go through that’s one thing but if you’re speaking on racism saying “it’s not that big of a deal” or if you’re trying to actually say we are equal & not divided whatsoever because you haven’t been through it that’s wrong on so many levels. I had a woman tell me the other day that people of all races have the same opportunities in the work field just because a colored man works with her husband & makes the same amount of money as him. People are speaking from biased points of view & it’s ridiculous to me. I’m also sick of the “my friend is black so I’m definitely not racist” comments. This will continue to be an issue as long as people still step out of their lane & speak on what they can’t truly speak on in my opinion.

It’s a topic of discussion BECAUSE people deny it exists. Everyone is effected by racism in one way or another, white people are effected because they have white privilege. I will never have to worry that my son will be pulled over and shot by a police officer, I will never have to wonder if I didn’t get a promotion because of the color of my skin, I will never have to worry that my family will receive a substandard of care in any way medically all because we are white. White peoples worst fear is that they’re racist. That word pushes buttons. I’ll be honest, before participating in CC I thought like a racist and I said some racist things. I never hated anyone or had bad intentions but I was ignorant, my privilege allowed me to be ignorant. My CC friends opened my eyes and taught me a lot. I’m a better person for it. My son will be a better person for it. Watch the comments on this post. See the white people deny racism, and argue that white people experience it. Watch them fight POC. That’s proof enough.

How are we supposed to get to that space of unity that people speak of? 
We won’t heal if we forced to shelving this oh so blatant topic. It’s this old would keeps breaking but everyone wants to put a band aid over it and forget it. 
That’s not how healing works.
It’s a topic because it’s ingrained in our foundation, laws, systems, and everyday life. Until a lot of that changes it will continue to be a topic.

Racism is wrong regardless of country and I look forward to the day when it's no longer a problem. Black people screaming 'white privilege!' and white people screaming 'black people are all criminals!' just makes this whole issue never go away and, tbh, I'm tired of it.

I live in the U.K. and can’t say it’s a problem here. The topics of black lives matter and white privilege all those heated debates seem to stay in America. We all seem to get by pretty well here to me anyway

I think it's because of the media. Yes racism is an issue with some and in some places, but the media makes it looks like there's about to be a race war. The majority is not racist.

There will always be someone who debates things that are actually facts. And I think racism is abhorrent.

I have a coworker who constantly brings up racial differences and kinda blames everyone of being racist whenever something doesn't go his way. Guess what - he's the only racist. Our office is so colorful, people from all over the world. I don't think anyone would care if you came from Mars. Just do your damn job and stop bitching about color
