Insurance?!

I can’t be the only one in this group surprised by the deductible starting over in 2019 can I?! That seems so wrong!!
All of these claims are for the same event!
Otherwise everyone would plan to get pregnant in January to have a baby in the same year. So unfair.
I’ve been told I have a calendar year policy and that’s that but I don’t feel that’s right.... anyone else experiencing this? I know we all have different plans but there has to be some way to fix this so we don’t owe double!

I think it all depends on your insurance. Mine deductible restarts in October since that is the start of my works fiscal year. I’m fortunate enough to have a really good insurance plan to where all of my prenatal care including ultrasounds have been paid for 100% by my insurance. I’m responsible for my portion of the birth and any post natal care so having a March delivery leaves me with a met deductible (and probably max out of pocket) for 6 months out of the year. Not too bad in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds about right. Thank god i have a health savings plan my company matches that rolls over. I’ll be using that to reach my full deductible once giving birth.

My clinic does global billing, they charge me every time I go in but do not apply it to my insurance until I deliver so my deductible isn’t split

That’s how mine is. We were told that when we went into our first appointment and met with the financial person so I was aware. Sucks cuz our old insurance they just put it all together as one which I feel is how it should be   Pregnancy tends to last 9 months lol

Mine is Jan-dec too. It was a factor when we started talking about trying again. But we had hoped since I didnt really have complications and had low cost visits with my first it would be the same. Reached my deductible in now last year. I will say i already racked up a 16,000 bill for stay in Jan so anything else I need to get done for either me or my daughter it is happening this year!

I knew this from the beginning of my pregnancy so I’m not “surprised”. I called my insurance right from the beginning when I found out I was high risk to get detailed information on my coverage. Even the rep who helped me understand my frustration when I found out it all rested the first of the year. I reached my dedication two times already in this pregnancy. But all I can say is at least I have insurance to begin with. I would be broke right now if I didn’t. Count my blessings....

Mine is July- June, but only because my company switched insurances this year. I was upset because I had surgery last March and already hit my deductible and that had to restart 3 months later. Deductibles are frustrating

That's how it was with my first and second. Both were in March and both started a new year's deductible. My third I had Medicaid because my husband lost his job in the middle of my pregnancy and because I'm a sahm we had no viable income. This one I have an amazing insurance that I have no deductible or copays, pretty much no out of pocket expenses unless I go outside the network of doctors they use. But it's very common for the deductibles to reset in the first of the year

Unfortunately that’s the norm. I know it’s such a pain in the ass and totally not fair 😩 try talking to your insurance company and see if they can waive a portion of your deductible? Thankfully my husband’s employer changed insurance companies and we don’t have a deductible this time around.  But we did with our first two who were born in March and April, so deductibles started over in Jan.
