Question about when egg is released

Im having trouble understanding...once theres an Lh surge giving a positive opk test, does the egg get released after 12-36 hours and then wait to be fertilized for 24 hours? Meaning after the positive opk theres 12-60 hours before the egg realizes its not getting fertilized and gives up?

I got a positive opk on the 13th afternoon and negative the 14th afternoon and bd on the 15th so wondering if i still made the cut off
