Benadryl ok while pregnant?

I'm very early in my first trimester (seriously, only 4 weeks today) I have a terrible head cold and read online you can have benadryl. Do you ladies think that's ok?

Yep! Fair warning though, if you have any probs with restless leg syndrome ( you would know it’s like Satan has possessed your legs and it makes you want to cry or kick someone non stop) as a pregnancy symptom... benedryl can make it much much worse. If not... it is a lifesaver for pregnant colds!

I’d check with your OB. When I was pregnant my OB said no medication until I was in my second trimester. It sucked!

My doctor gave me a list of medications that are okay to take and Benadryl, Claritin and Tylenol Sinus are on it! I’ve taken all three at some point of my pregnancy (21 weeks) and baby is fine.

Was just at my OBGyn yesterday and have had a cold this week. Keep in mind I’m at 23w1d. She recommended Theraflu powder in my tea before a nap or bedtime. It’s basically Tylenol and benedryl, both of which are safe. I would definitely check with your OBGyn first since you are in your first trimester though. She said it’ll knock me out so I can get a solid rest and get better faster.

You CAN take it but definitely DO NOT take it for a head cold it will make your cold last longer. Benadryl is an antihistamine which works by LOWERING your immune response to an allergen. If you lower your immune response you could get sicker OR stay sick much longer. Take a cold and flu med and some vitamins.
