Stupid argument about PRESCHOOL?!

Question

Me and my husband got into the stylist argument and he NEVER lets me talk. Only he gets to talk and than when he’s done he wants to end it. I told him I don’t want our son to go to Preschool only because I’ve worked there once and they barley teach them...I wanted to keep him home so I can teach him. I know he would learn more if he is with me...and than off to kindergarten. Apparently my husband got really pissed off because he says he IS gonna go cause he wants him to be social........ is anyone right in this situation?

Like other commenter said, all preschools are different so don’t base your idea on the one you worked at.
I’ve worked with kids in school and let me tell you that I’d rather deal with a child that is well socialized but doesn’t know how to do basic stuff than a child that is unsocial, used to getting all the attention, super needy butknows his alphabet.
There’s always time to learn, there’s not always an opportunity for a kid to learn to socialize when all the others already are

You both have valid points. But can you compromise or do each of you have to be right at the expense of your relationship? If he goes to preschool you can still teach him at home. He doesn’t have a learning quota for the day. If you teach him at home he can still be socialized with other children.

I didn't put my daughter in preschool either, I taught her here at home, and she's now 8 years old and I homeschool her. She doesn't have any problems with social skills, she's very social. She goes on play dates with neighbor kids, cousins and we go to the park and she plays with the kids there. She will talk to anyone. We chose to homeschool because she can work at her own pace and not feels rushed. And with all the bullying and school shootings lately, we feel more comfortable with her here with us.

I’ve worked at different types of preschools! Christian, government funded, in a poor area, in a wealthy area- I refuse to send my kids to a preschool! I’ve seen some teachers/aides even directors do some harmful things to those children and act like nothing happened. I had a teacher tell me to pick up the kids food that fell on the floor and put it back on the plate (18month old!) I didn’t thank goodness! I love working with kids so I switched to becoming a nanny so I didn’t have to watch older women practically abuse the children(they would pick them up by their overalls, yell in their face- admin did NOTHING!) so I will never send my precious children to preschool! If you can avoid sending them I would. Almost 10 years in about 4 preschools and they all had some type of abuse of the children- verbal or physical. The only one that didn’t was a school child development center! That was my favorite and those babies were well taken care of! Every where  else especially the “Christian” schools were awful!

The preschools where I live are amazing. You have to apply to get in and your child has to meet certain criteria. The teachers have to have their bachelors in early childhood. They are very good schools. Yes they cost money, but it’s worth it and it’s setting the child up for future success in school. The teachers know what they are doing here. Preschool is also excellent for social interactions that they will need for K-12.

I have worked as a preschool teacher before and we did a lot more than what the teachers do at my kids preschool. I have to volunteer 1 time a month and pretty much half the time is free play, 1/4 of the time outside play and the other 1/4 is teacher led learning. I wanted my child to go for the same reason as your husband...to learn to be social not for the education part cause frankly I have taught my own kid the basics.  I always bitch to my husband about how the teachers barely do anything but I only keep her in for social purposes, she was an only child till about 4. I can see both sides

Not all preschools are the same, I’ve worked at one as well and we were very interactive with the kids. How old is your child, is this something that’s happening soon or something that can get tabled for a bit. Maybe a compromise of just going part time so they get the socialization. Money is also a factor too though, a good preschool can be very pricey.
