Traveling and Zika?!

So we are scheduled to go on a trip to Barbados in March. We’ve had it scheduled for two months. I’ll be 11-12 weeks when we go. I never even thought about this because I haven’t heard about it in a while. A friend asked if I was worried about Zika. Well NOW I am!!! I plan to talk to doc at our first appointment at the end of this month. Thoughts????

Barbados is still on the CDC list for Zika. Personally it’s a risk I wouldn’t take, but definitely talk to your doctor. If you can, maybe consider switching your trip to the Bahamas or Bermuda, which are both off the CDC list and considered safe for pregnant women to travel to.

We had a trip planned to Punta Cana this week with our friends! When I found out I was pregnant we changed it to the Bahamas - we just got back yesterday. Wasn’t worth the risk to me!

This happens to me during my first pregnancy my husband and I had a trip already planned before I found out I was pregnant. My doctor did not recommend us going due to Zika and of course I didn’t want to put our child at risk. We canceled our trip and luckily after having some paperwork filled out and a note from our doctor we were able to get a full refund.

When I was 13 weeks pregnant with our first we were supposed to go on a two week dream honeymoon to Thailand (a year of planning). I casually mentioned it to my doctor not thinking much of it and she said absolutely do not go. The risk of Zika at that time and place was too great. It sucked having to completely cancel the trip, but I had to listen to her advice for my daughter’s safety. Not sure what the Zika situation is like in Barbados, but I would definitely ask your doctor and do your research.

Ugh I'm in the same situation as you. I just found out I'm pregnant and I have my honeymoon booked to Mexico for April. No idea at this point what to do. I didn't get cancellation 😑

We just rescheduled a cruise to Mexico. We are going now to the Bahamas. Its not worth the risk.

100% would not go if I were in your position, that’s a huge risk that could have severe consequences.

Shelby, this is crazy because I am almost in the exact same situation as you! My husband and I planned a late honeymoon to Barbados late March/early April. We just found out we’re pregnant and I will be 11-12 weeks as well at that time. I did get the trip insurance, so we are going to hold off going and reschedule the trip because everything I read said it was not safe for pregnant women. I’d rather not take the risk! (The sacrifices already begin, right?!) Barbados will always be there! 
At my annual appointment with my OBGyn in the beginning of Jan, I mentioned our trip. She said, “well, if you happen to get pregnant then it will not be safe to travel there, especially in your first trimester.” I thought, well, no way that will happen already (we had been trying for a few months)....and now look! I’m sure if you contact the place and airline they will give you a voucher considering the situation. Good luck to you, and congrats!
