difficulty in pleasuring myself

for years I've tried to masturbate and figure out what works for me but it never feels great and I always get bored and give up. But I LOVE sex. I can never get enough but I find it strange. when my boyfriend plays with my clit it feels amazing but when I do it (even during intercourse to help myself) it feels like nothing. is this weird? am I doing something wrong?
