I have no idea how to get to know a new person

I'm pretty dang loyal & a great friend or partner when someone needs support... but what the hell do I do if the person hasn't opened up to me???

Say they're not doing well, what do I do???

Like I should be distant, yet there, somehow at the same time?

I only have deep friendships and I'm not used to someone more like me who doesn't open up fast.

Oh, I think I am supposed to be like the people that annoy me until we are friends for life?
