Naming baby after cousin?
So I’ve been really stuck trying to think of boy names. I don’t really like that many boy names, and me and my boyfriend don’t agree on any 😐. It also needs to be pronounceable in English and Spanish (boyfriend is Venezuelan, and we live in a Spanish-speaking country).
Anyways, I finalllyyyy found one that both of us like-Dezi. So I was absolutely certain of this name, I told my mom about it and she already started calling him by that name. ‘I’m going to get little Dezi some onesies.’
So my boyfriend brought it up with his dad, who reminded him that he has a girl cousin with a similar name (it’s something like ‘Desiday,’ I’m not really sure how she spells it) and she goes by ‘Desi,’ for short. He said that he thought of that when I mentioned the name, but still really liked it, but didn’t really start to second-guess it until his dad said something to him.
So now I’m pretty upset because I really wanted to name our boy that, and had my heart set on it, but now I feel like we can’t. (I should also add that he has like a million cousins scattered across the world, and this particular cousin doesn’t live in the same country as us, and they don’t talk at all).
Would you still give your baby a name that’s similar to one of you or your SO’s cousins?
