Thoughts on doing away with the electoral college?

Many states are moving to eliminate the electoral college. Are you for or against getting rid of the electoral college?

If we get rid of the electoral college, then California and New York will be the only states that decide every election.

No. It takes away smaller states voices. It has worked this long, until they didn't get the president they wanted of course. California and New York shouldn't be the only votes that count.

I think they should have to split the votes according the percentages of their constituents. No more just red or blue votes. If the people in the state voted 60/40, that should be reflected in the electoral college instead of all the votes going to the majority.

I hit for instead of against and then reread the question. There’s a reason we have it. 
If we didn’t have the electoral college, states like New York and California would decide every election because of their dense population. Smaller states wouldn’t even matter at that point.

I’m not sure. I don’t completely mind it, but the electors should go with the popular vote in their region or whatever.

I think it needs to be fixed like every other aspect of our government, but also like every other part of our government - that's not going to happen. I do find it funny, though, that it was originally created by the founding fathers to keep a manipulative tyrant from becoming president.

The electoral college literally only benefits states that have such low populations they get the 3 vote minimum despite not having a high enough population to get those three votes like other states. A Californian's vote counts less than a Wyoming voter. 
Other than that, it's just drowning out individual voices. It also takes away attention from smaller states. Presidential elections focus all of their campaign and money on swing states that have a lot of electoral votes. Smaller states don't matter to them because they don't have a lot of votes. If it was based on individual votes per state, all the states would matter. 
The electoral college doesn't actually make canidates care about Wyoming even though it's supposed to benefit Wyoming. Wyoming will still only win a candidate 3 votes.
It exists because we used to have send messengers on horse back to deliver our voting outcome from state to state. That's not really an issue now.

I just don't like the winner take all system of the electoral college - if 51% of a state votes one way then the other 49% shouldn't just lose their voice. More places should adopt what Nebraska and Maine do and split their electoral votes to better represent all of the people.

So we want 2 states to be able to determine the election??? Sounds good!!! NOT!! People who don’t understand government and only know what they see on FB or the news need to do more research with credible sources before they make a decision on all things!!

I just think a person should have to win by both the electoral college AND the popular vote. Most presidents have won both anyways, and the times they don’t there should be a repeat election with just the 2 candidates (no third party or write in votes)
