Miscarriage at 16 weeks

Brit 👼🏻💙 👼🏻 • Mommy to one little boy in heaven and one on earth. Also mommy to another little in heaven.

In December we went at 14 weeks to one of those places with the 4D ultra sounds so we could find out the gender early before Christmas so we could do a gender reveal surprise for the family. While there we got the news that they found something wrong and needed to go see our doctor then next day. The next day I had another ultrasound and found out that our baby had hydrops and skin adema. What this means is that our baby had fluid in between the layer of skin all around the body and had fluid in the chest cavity. At that point the baby had a strong heart beat and was very active. We then went on to have multiple tests for the next two weeks until we ended up at a specialist. The specialist appointment started with another ultrasound. We went to that appointment hoping for answers and good news and we left with no heartbeat being found and an appointment to deliver the next day. We found out at the specialist that our little boy had Down syndrome and that was probably what had caused the hydrops. So the next day at 16 weeks I went into the hospital to deliver our little man way before time. Two days later our little man Atticus Ryan was born to us. We were able to hold him and say goodbye. It’s been a long two months since it happened. It is still hard seeing baby boys and pregnant moms. After a long healing process with multiple complications I finally feel so much better physically and am hoping to try again starting in March. I’m really hoping for a rainbow baby.

Thank you if you read this long post and letting me share my story with you.
