With my son if he was hungry the pacifier would only work for a few minutes. If he started falling asleep when he got it I knew he just needed comfort, if he was still whining, squirming, or spitting it out I knew he was hungry. Babies spit up regardless of what you do so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

My one month old is formula fed, she’s just started puking up more. I can’t tell if it’s because I’m feeding her too much. How can you tell when a baby who just wants to suck vs. a baby who is hungry?
