Our Crazy Birth Story
So yesterday our beautiful baby R was born, and I became a mother. The moment she entered this world as her own being will forever be imprinted in my brain thanks to the incredible story that we were able to share.
Baby R was not born with a normal hospital birth. She wasn’t born in a room full of baby supplies and laboring tools... She was brought into this world in front of an entire ER staff that was in complete shock. Luckily she waited until we got in the doors to make her entrance, but we did most of the birth at home (the pushing in the car) and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! It may have been a very hectic scene, but I do vividly remember every second that it made it so worth it.
I started timing contractions around 6pm on February 19, 2019. They were consistent and feeling effective in bringing me one step closer to meeting the most beautiful little girl I’ve ever seen. We decided to go to the hospital, just to check and see where she was at. With her not being close, we went home happy to continue this new journey. Around 7 am I asked our doula, Laura, to join us at the house. We proceeded to get about 5 more hours of laboring done at home, then headed BACK to the hospital. Due to the stress of arriving at the hospital, my contractions slowed and progress essentially stopped. So we were sent home again. They turned us away even though I had in fact made progress. Not knowing my own laboring body, this made me very discouraged and my mindset for the natural birth I had always wanted began to dwindle. I was exhausted and discouraged. We made it home after being at the hospital a couple hours. It was around 1:30 that we made it back to the house. We live about 30 minutes to an hour from the hospital, depending on the traffic and time of day. At 2:09, my water broke fast and I immediately knew it was different. That is when contractions began to increase fiercely and we all knew that it was going to be soon. By the time we reached the car, my body was doing things I couldn’t stop. We got to the hospital at 3:30 and Rylee was born at 3:53 on February 20.
She weighed in at 7.6lbs, 20 inches long! A perfect little baby girl. We’re all doing great!
