Natural tear vs episiotomy?

Any one experience both? Which one was easier to heal from? 
With my first, I had a second degree natural tear. With my second, born just a few days ago, I had a second degree episiotomy because she had shoulder dystocia

With my first I had an episiotomy and still tore and this time I just had a first degree tear. I would have to say that the tear is a hell of a lot easier to deal with and less painful.

I was told getting an episiotomy is like having a tear in a bag of chips. Once you make the tear it very easily rips further and further down 🙈
