My husband asked me last night if his mom could be in the room during labor and delivery. She’s never seen one of his kids born so I understand why he wants her in there, but I feel uncomfortable. I’m torn because I want my mom in there (she’s been there for my previous 2) BUT she isn’t overbearing. She literally sits in the corner and keeps an eye on me (I’m high risk) and when baby is born she snaps pictures while they weigh and clean the baby and then she leaves. She won’t hold the baby, and doesn’t want to impede on my husband and my time with our newborn. I love it. I know his mother won’t be the same. She will post all over social media about every single thing happening in the room, take pictures and post them before I do (she wants even there for the other 2 but she posted, as well as my sisters in law, about both of my daughters before I ever had the chance), and will be too much for me. She also chain smokes and smells like stale cigarettes all the time so I would rather my child not have to smell that when he’s born. I told him I wasn’t comfortable with it but I would continue to think on it. What would you ladies do?
