TW Alesha MacPhail murderer named
Six year old Alesha MacPhail was killed on the Isle of Bute on 2 July, 2018. This week her murderer, who abducted, raped, and murdered her as she visited her grandparents, was found guilty. He will face a life sentence. The court heard that Alesha had 117 injuries and died from severe pressure applied to her head and neck
But I’m not here to discuss that. In a rare case, the judge has decided that the normal accused under 18 has no photos or names published by the press will no longer stand (post verdict). The 16 year old offender has been named as Aaron Campbell
Was the judge right in revealing the identity of an offender under 18? Or should standard procedure have continued and protected the identity of the child offender?
