Pregnancy and cats?

I just got a cat on Valentine’s Day from an animal shelter and I just found out today I’m pregnant , I read all the risks of cleaning their cat litter , as I cleaned it today and I’m totally freaking out . It says their feces can cause a miscarriage and yea I’m freaking out so bad . Husband doesn’t like cleaning the litter box which means ill be responsible.

If you wash your hands thoroughly and don't breathe the dust, you should be fine.  But your husband should definitely suck it up and do it for you.

Totally agree on your husband sucking it up for the sake of your baby. Mine wasn’t good about doing the litter either but when I told him the recommendation that pregnant women not touch it and the risk it posed he did it the entire pregnancy. What’s great is that now even after I gave birth he is just used to that being his chore that he continues doing it without asking me to help out 😂

I did it my entire pregnancy.... my cat never went outside though. No problems whatsoever!!

Chances are pretty low of you catching anything. If you buy a mask/gloves and keep it clean on a very regular basis you’ll be fine!

I was paranoid too and my husband refused to change the litter. So I have been using masks and gloves every time and washing my hands immediately after. I’m currently 23 weeks and thankfully nothing bad that I know of has happened so far. However my cat is an inside cat only and has been her whole life. I know outside cats are more prone to carrying those kinds of diseases.

If the cat isn’t an outdoor cat, just wear rubber gloves, and maybe a mask to minimise the risk of breathing anything in when cleaning the litter tray.

Switch to purinas yesterdays news paper litter. It has no scent and it's just compressed paper pellets . That's what I am using
