Love the name, hate my FIL
So my husband and I like the name Callahan and I personally also love the nickname Cal that goes with it.
Problem is, my Father in Law’s name is Calvin and apparently he is also sometimes called Cal by the family. Ok honestly and pseudo secretly, I hate my FIL and really don’t like almost any part of that side of the family. I have quite a few legitimate reasons and then probably some insignificant/petty ones tbh. We live in the same state as them but don’t see them too often because we’re pretty busy and not super close with them.
The thing is, my FIL is super self centered and thinks he’s hilarious and always calls our daughter “Calvinda” (not anywhere close to her name) and refers to this new baby as little Calvin. He made our first baby all about him and it has always driven me nuts (as far as the more petty and insignificant things go lol)
Will I never hear the end of it if we give this baby an opportunity to share a nickname with him? I would never name any of our children after a family member, but does a nickname follow the same rules? Especially when you don’t like that family member? I very very rarely hear anyone call him Cal, but perhaps this would be an opportunity for everyone to revamp it and would I start to cringe at my son’s name?
