Mirena Coil disappeared. Ectopic Pregnancy

Corrina

Hi all 😊

Sorry, this is a bit of an essay!

I had the mirena coil fitted after having my son in 2014. My periods were monthly and very short and light (prior to having my son I had very heavy and often painful periods). I had major skin issues and had antibiotics and numerous creams. I booked in to have the coil removed as we wanted to start trying, but my breasts had been aching, and on the off chance I was pregnant I did a test, and I was. As you can imagine, we were thrilled, but concerned. I went to the EPU and they said because I had the coil there was a good chance that it was an ectopic pregnancy (which I already knew). We really hoped for the best but sadly it was. Fortunately, my body miscarried naturally without intervention.

Now, here’s the thing. When they went to look for the coil (and the baby of course), they couldn’t find it. They said it can’t be anywhere other than where they’ve looked and assume it fell out. I find it remarkable because I’m positive I would notice AND I still have all the side effects I had previously. Short light periods and bad skin! I have also been told (after a blood test) that I’m not producing much of a hormone that is required for making babies so even if I do happen to get pregnant, I will almost certainly miscarry. I have been doing ovulation tests and I haven’t ovulated in two months, but still have short light periods.

So here’s my question really... is it possible that the coil is still there, working at half strength (hence the pregnancy but also the other side effects) and they just missed it?!

I’m 35, and I don’t want to be much older than this before having another baby, and I’m worried they’ve missed something and it’s going to ruin my chances.

Thank you so much for any responses.
