When are you giving baby a pacifier?

Question

Hospital recommended no pacifier until milk supply is established. Has anyone given a pacifier to 2 day old newborn?

My little is 12 days old and has taken a paci since we were in the hospital just to soothe her as she went almost 14 hours straight cluster feeding and my nipples needed a break. She still takes it at night and has had 0 problems with nipple confusion. MAM pacifiers are great we’ve found.

I did but my son had to have photo therapy and couldn't be comforted under the lights so we gave him a paci. Still latches on great he was only 2 days old when we gave it to him

We did on her 2nd day because her latch was pretty good and we didnt think it would interfere with her breastfeeding and we were right so go for it if you can!
Also she would have sucked her fingers off if we didnt!

Yes I have. The baby was latching ok so I have given it to her a couple times.

The NICU gave my baby a pacifier on day 2 and she took to the breast just fine and still does. It didn’t affect my milk supply at all either.

We gave it to him when we got home. He was two days old. My husband was afraid when he would cry 🙄 he had a tongue tie too at birth that had to be clipped and I think the paci actually helped him to learn how to latch and suck properly. Using a nipple shield was helpful too.

The paci helped my little boy learn his suckle reflex. Before he would just fall asleep on my boob so the lactation specialist actually recommended it.

I personally think without latch issues a paci is fine as soon as you would like. I wish we could start a pacifier but we are having latching problems.

My first one got one on day 2 at the hospital. Never had any problems. Now with my son I have tried several times but unfortunately every time we ended up with problems latching afterward. He gets really hectic and doesn’t suck properly, even though he is normally a good eater. So I suppose those latching problems are a real thing, but they clearly don’t happen with every baby. But it’s not like you are causing irreversible damage. I get the latching problems right after but they go away again once we haven’t used a paci in a couple of hours. So don’t be scared of trying. We will continue to try, too.
