Update : Medela nipple sheild for the win! Turns out I have flat nipples and a quick letdown. Got the shields today and it's a game changer. He went from feeding only 7 minutes on 1 side total, now he just ate for 31 minutes total on both sides and latched very quickly.

So relieved!

So my baby is 6 days old and he is having issues latching. I have tried both the cross and football hold. He will get a good latch take 1 or 2 sucks then let go. He will then get so excited or desperate to feed that he is kicking and whipping his head around constantly missing the nipple. Once he latches again he is fine, but latching can take up to 20 minutes per feed and he feeds for anywhere between 10 to 25 minutes max then goes back to sleep. I feed him in just a diaper and always change him before a feed to make sure he is awake.

Any advice?

Is any other moms going through this?

This is basically what he does trying to get the nipple. Even if I put the nipple in his mouth that's what he does.
