Anything else I can do to help my babies bit of diaper rash ?

Right on his little butt he's got a cherry red bit of skin and we've been using a diaper cream all day today, how long before that starts to help ? Anything else we can try ?

Lots of nappy free time when you’re at home. Keeping it dry and clean speeds up healing. And when you do use diapers just make sure to change them frequently enough so that he’s not staying in wet ones for very long.

We spoke to our pediatrician and she prescribed nystatin ointment because the diaper rash got a little bumpy which can indicate a fungal infection. So we alternated between the ointment and Desitin for every other diaper change. Washing baby’s behind over the sink instead of using wipes helped. If you use wipes, try to use water wipes or just wet a thick tissue/ cotton balls. Also, putting a hefty layer of Aquaphor over the diaper rash ointment helped with the chafing.

My sons butt was red between his butt cheeks. Baby aquaphor had it looking better within a day. Now it’s completely gone after about 2-3 days

Air is honestly the best thing for a diaper rash. Buy some puppy pee pads and put baby down on his tummy on them without a diaper on. When you do diaper him use a really thick barrier cream, penaten or extra strength zincofax work well. You can even mix a bit of cornstarch into the diaper cream to make a paste. If you do this, when you change his bum don't wipe the paste right off (unless it's covered in poop) if it's just pee do a light dab of the top of the paste to cleanse it but don't wipe it completely away. When you go to air him out wipe the paste off completely. It sounds like alot of work but it will only take a day or two for the rash to clear up completely.

The diaper rash cream help between 24-48hrs, it should look better tomorrow. If there’s open wounds from diaper rash those will have to heal on heir own time, just try to keep baby clean and dry by providing regular diaper changes with diaper rash cream as a protectant.
