Anyone thinking of a home birth with a midwife?

Answer

Not a chance. With advanced maternal age comes increased risks. And that aside, any pregnancy can have a placental abruption, or a cord prolapse, or a multitude of other problems. While I don’t want any unnecessary intervention, I DO want there to be the availability of doctors and operating rooms in the event that it all turns pear-shaped during labor.

No way. Too much risk. Things can change so fast, even if you are minutes away from a hospital a complication could cost your or baby's life.

I’m with Kathryn. If I’d have had my first at home, I’d be dead. I had a post-partum hemorrhage and would have bled out. I’ll take the hospital any day. 
You can find hospitals that are very supportive of natural births. Plus, hospitals clean up all the gross that’s going to come out of you.

I am! I'm so excited. It's my first so I'm a little apprehensive however I've read the stats and homebirth with a midwife is in our favour. Also I'm a 10 minute ride to the hospital should anything happen.
