I'm an outsider

I feel like an outsider living with my in laws. Yesterday they told me to let my almost 4 month old crying. I said no because she is communicating with me. They said no she just cries because she knows I will hold her and it's a want not a need. I just don't want her to cry if she doesn't have to.
