Down Syndrome update
Hey ladies!
I posted maybe earlier this month about how my perinatologist found a “double bubble” and associated it with Down syndrome but at the time, we had not gotten the genetic test results so we weren’t for sure what those were going to say.
We got the test results back, and she is a high risk for Down syndrome, 91%. My husband and I decided not to get further testing because her having DS does not change anything for us.
As far as the double bubble, he said he still saw it as well as a heart defect. Last week was our first appt with the surgeon for her heart. She will be going in for open heart surgery when she is 4 months old to fix a canal defect. We also met with another surgeon and she will also be having surgery when she is 2 days old to fix her stomach defect. She will be airlifted (assuming everything is still the same when she’s born). The appointment was very reassuring, it’s at a very highly recommended and reputable hospital, one that I had surgery at when I was 5. It seems like the majority of our questions have been answered and that she will be in good hands come both surgeries. They also informed us that once she has both surgeries, she should no longer have any issues in the future!
Thank you to the ladies that responded to my original post, giving me advice :)
